KOG : Kiwis on the Ground & Business Mentors

KOG is an information exchange of local knowledge for Asia-based New Zealanders with pan-Asia interests, as well as for NZ-based businesses with Asian market goals. The Asia Pacific Business Network (AP-Net) within New Zealand is linked to Kiwis on the Ground (KOG).

It aims to be:

A referral point and support group for both Asia and NZ-based companies seeking to access local networks in the region.

A collection point for getting informed input into public and private sector strategies in NZ, and reciprocally a vehicle for supporting NZ trade interests and initiatives in the region.

A regional contact network for NZ-based entities pursuing trade and investment development agendas (e.g. business councils, development agencies, Chambers of Commerce, Employers and Manufacturer Associations, Export NZ etc).

Following are points to note about members of the KOG network:

The business contacts listed are New Zealanders who are voluntary members of the KOG network. Some may be willing to share local knowledge informally, and others may be able to make connections to wider NZ-related networks (e.g. NZ business associations and chambers) in their countries of residence. Their ability to respond to approaches will vary with individual enquiries and circumstances.

Embassies, Consulates and the NZCIO in Taipei are NZ offices which deal with the authorities where they are based. They provide advice and assistance to New Zealanders on issues such as the local economic and policy environment, trade access, and consular and regulatory matters (see www.mfat.govt.nz for further details).

Trade Commissioners support the specific trade initiatives of individual NZ companies, and provide information and advice on market conditions and export promotion. They also undertake commissioned research and market development activities (see www.nzte.govt.nz for further details).

Investment NZ is responsible for attracting offshore investment into NZ and can assist some companies to identify investment partners (see www.nzte.govt.nz for further details).

NZCCHK Business Mentors

In support of KOG, the NZCCHK has established a business mentor programme whereby New Zealand business persons based in Hong Kong may voluntarily list themselves under the NZCCHK Business Mentor Scheme.

Details of NZCCHK members participating as mentors are contained in the table that follows. New Zealand based persons or businesses seeking to enter the Hong Kong/China market are invited to contact an appropriate mentor directly. Should a commercial relationship develop as a result of this scheme, it will be the responsibility of the parties to settle contractual arrangements between themselves.
